If its not the way. Which way is?
by maryacclaim ini read a lot of the topics and subjects in this forum, and can't help but to ask, if the witnesses ideas are not the way, then which way is?.
i was a witness for over 25 years and have been out of the organization for over 3 years now.
yet, i have a hard time seeing anyone else's way as the right way to go.

Hi Mary, I have had to get comfortable with the idea of not knowing the answers to every mystery of life. I felt very smug as a witness that we had special enlightenment to every aspect of life, now I don't think anybody does. Maybe someday I will have the energy to start to investigate other religion/doctrine but right now am just enjoying my freedom. I hope that helps a little and welcome.

Building new friendships
by troubled mind inon the thread about 'moving on after leaving the witnesses', it brought to mind how hard it is to build new friendships .. for me i have been out for a little over three years .
i knew before i quit that it would be important to fill the void that would be left when old "friends" began dropping us .
lucky for me i worked with some very fun out going people at my job .

Well, now when the neighbors ask us over for a cook out, we go instead of looking for an excuse. My kids are playing sports and going to parties and sleep overs. I have friends from work that I have held at arms length for many years, now I embrace them.

wedding anniversarys
by Adrianoblue inyou`ve probably had this topic before, but there always was this one thing which kept bugging me: here in germany it is pretty common for married jw couples to celebrate their wedding anniversary each year.
do jws in the us or elsewhere do the same?.
well, the reason i`m asking, is the fact that i never really understood what the hell is the difference between such an event and a birthday party?.

I totally agree with you. I think that because it's the only thing that is celebrated, it gets a little blown out of proportion. Besides the children and single people really get left out. At my old book study they would always have little anniversary parties but I always felt bad for the single sisters. One sister said something about it once and one of the old married sisters said "what's the matter we let you eat cake too". Isn't that sensitive!

How Long Have you Been Out of the Witnesses ? Have you Moved On ?
by flipper ini have been out over 5 years now.
i feel we all start healing at different speeds depending on how much hurt we went through in exiting ; and how much we've educated ourselves about how and why we were sucked in by a mind control cult.
at first i felt anger towards the organization , but after learning about mind control within 3 years of leaving the cult i felt sorry for those who are still trapped inside the witnesses being deceived.

Hey Flipper, it's been almost a year for us. Last meeting 5/08, we did attend the memorial last year. We did one of those fast fades. We've had some surprise elder visits and letters from a few people at the hall. The weird thing is that our family hasn't really asked, it's like the elephant in the room. I know that once the topic of doctrinal matters or history of JW's rears it's ugly head, that this little time of relative peace will be over. I think that this memorial season is a turning point (I'm not going), they will leave us alone or pursue matters. Steve Hassans books and CoC have helped free us mentally, but you can't change the past or our weird childhoods, so it is really difficult to move on. Our goal is to have a different kind of life for our children, that's what is helping me move on right now

How can I help my wife to get out
by Albert Einstein ini am fading out after 18 years in jw cult (pioneer, ms, elder etc ...).
my wife was born in jw family, very strong family bonds, very loyal to jw.
at home we can talk pretty open, but she is so blindfolded, so loyal, not willing to admitt jw could be totally wrong... is there any chance to help her step by step?

My husband and I both kind of woke up at the same time but after a life time indoctrination, I needed to deprogram myself. I can't say enough about Steve Hassan's books. I read them once, but continue to re read certain parts. You will want to read them first and see what works best on her initially to get her in a softened frame of mind. You will find the support here very helpful. Welcome!

I have often wondered the same thing. When a guys hears voices now and threatens to kill his kids we give him some pills and lock him up. But with Abraham, he was a great guy.
